TUBAS (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained six Palestinians near the West Bank cities of Tubas and Jericho on Wednesday morning, raising the total number taken in arrest raids overnight to at least 17.

Israeli forces detained two Palestinians after raiding their homes in the town of Tammun east of Tubas in the northern West Bank early Wednesday.

Locals told Ma'an that Israeli soldiers raided the town and detained Diyaa Bani Odeh, 20, and Khalid Jalal Bisharat, 21.

The Palestinian Prisoners Society told Ma'an, meanwhile, that four Palestinians were detained in Aqbat Jabir refugee camp near Jericho.

The detainees were identified as Raafat Atallah, 30, Muhammad Eid Kaabnah, 20, Muhammad Khamis Baraqa, 25, and Diyaa Mahmoud Bani Audah, 18.

11 Palestinians were reported as detained by Israeli forces earlier by the Palestinians Prisoners Society, Those arrests occured in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of al-Tur as well as in Hebron.

An Israeli military spokeswoman, however, denied the reports, saying that only four were detained overnight, including three she said were wanted for suspected involvement in "terror activities against civilians and forces."

She said that the detainees included one "Hamas operative" in Tell, southwest of Nablus, one person in Kafr Nima northwest of Ramallah, and two people in Beit Ummar.
