Aug. 6, 2016 5:18 P.M. (Updated: Aug. 6, 2016 5:18 P.M.)
CAIRO (Ma’an) -- Four Egyptian civilians were killed and three others were injured Saturday afternoon after an explosive device went off inside a waste container in al-Arish city in Egypt’s northern Sinai Peninsula.

Egyptian security officials told Ma’an that a garbage truck was on its routine pickup along the Mediterranean coastal highway when an undetonated device exploded while workers were emptying a waste container into the garbage truck.

Three waste collectors were killed in addition to a girl who was a bystander in the area.

Three passersby were injured and were evacuated to al-Arish public hospital for treatment.

Officials did not provide any information regarding the origins of the device, or why it was located in a civilian waste container.
