Israeli soldiers assault Palestinian in Qalqiliya-area village

Nov. 8, 2016 6:29 P.M. (Updated: Nov. 8, 2016 6:29 P.M.)
QALQILIYA (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces assaulted a Palestinian youth on Tuesday while at the northern entrance of the village of Azzun in the occupied West Bank district of Qalqiliya.

Witnesses told Ma’an that Israeli soldiers assaulted Adam Bassam Salim, 22, handcuffing and blindfolding him before leaving him on the ground while Israeli forces were in the northern part of the town launching a surveillance balloon to monitor the area.

Israeli forces later released Salim.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that they were looking into the reports. Meanwhile, other Israeli official sources denied that soldiers had assaulted Salim.

Both Israeli human rights group B’Tselem and Defense for Children International - Palestine (DCIP) released reports in October detailing the culture of impunity reserved for Israeli forces who kill and assault Palestinians, noting the unlikelihood that Israeli soldiers who wrongfully injure and kill Palestinians be held accountable.
