HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli troops Monday evening detained Palestinian Authority (PA) customs officers for three hours after stopping their vehicle near Hebron in the southern occupied West Bank.
Palestinian officials told Ma'an that the customs agents were traveling back to their main office in Hebron after they had seized a truck loaded with contraband construction material at the entrance to the town of Bani Naim, east of Hebron.
As the agents arrived at a bypass highway which serves both Palestinians and Israeli settlers, an Israeli military patrol stopped their vehicle and detained them for around three hours.
The agents were taken to the Israeli liaison office, who notified the Palestinian liaison office before releasing the customs agents.
Officials added that the Israeli forces allowed the truck carrying contraband, that was seized by the PA customs agents, to leave as well.
An Israeli army spokesperson said they were looking into reports.
