BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 21 Palestinians during predawn raids across the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem between Monday and Tuesday, according to local Palestinian and Israeli army sources.
In the northern occupied West Bank district of Salfit, the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said that Israeli forces detained six residents from the village of Qarawat Bani Hassan during raids.
The six were identified as Othman Mahmoud Asi, 27, Bilal Ali Asi, 24, Baraa Said Asi, 23, Mustafa Abd al-Aziz Mirei, 32, Ahmad Harb Rayyan, 27, and Muamin Jamal Mirei, 23.
An Israeli army spokesperson confirmed to Ma’an five detentions in Qarawat Bani Hassan.
Locals from the northern West Bank, Nablus-area village of Urif reported that Israeli forces detained Ubadah Muhammad Shihada. PPS also reported the detention of Mujahid Muhammad Khalaf, 20 in the Nablus district.
Muhammad Rizq Hamid, 18, was detained from the village of Silwad east of Ramallah in the central occupied West Bank, according to locals, while PPS reported that Ahmad Abu Qarei, 17, was also detained in the Ramallah district.
In the southern West Bank district of Hebron, Israeli forces raided the town of Beit Awwa and detained Mahmoud Atif Masalma, Malik Muhammad Masalma, and Bahaa Muhammad al-Ikeimi.
Also in the Hebron district, Israeli forces raided the town of Beit Ummar, where they detained Muntasir Wajih Abu Ayyash.
The Israeli army spokesperson confirmed three detentions from Beit Awwa, one from Beit Ummar, and one from Urif, while Israeli police spokeswoman Luba al-Samri said seized 7 improvised explosive devices during a raid on Beit Awwa.
According to the army spokesperson, Israeli forces also detained one Palestinian from Tulkarem, one from the Nablus-area village of Talfit, two from the Ramallah-area village of Nilin, and one from the Bethlehem-area village of Nahhalin.
Meanwhile in occupied East Jerusalem, PPS said that Israeli forces detained Muhammad al-Masri, Muath Ubeid, Muhammad Ubeid, and Majd Mustafa.
Israeli forces conduct night raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-daily basis. According to UN documentation, the Israeli army carried out 185 military detention raids between Nov. 1 and Nov. 14.
According to prisoners rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of October. The organization estimates that 40 percent of Palestinian men have been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
