BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces detained four Palestinians from the village of Silwad in the occupied West Bank district of Ramallah on Friday
, also carrying out overnight raids in the village of Beit Ummar in the southern West Bank district of Hebron.
An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an that four Palestinians were detained during an overnight raid in Silwad for “illegal activities.” The identities of the detainees remained unknown.
Meanwhile, Israeli forces raided three Palestinian homes in Beit Ummar in the West Bank district of Hebron, summoning former prisoners Omar Ahmad Ayyad Awwa, 32, and Muhammad Muhsin Abd al-Hamid Zaaqiq, 40, to interrogations at Israel’s Etzion detention center, according to local activist Muhammad Ayyad Awwad.
Awwad noted that Israeli forces raided and and searched three homes in Beit Ummar.
Israeli forces conduct night raids across the occupied Palestinian territory on a near-daily basis. According to UN documentation, the Israeli army carried out 185 military detention raids between Nov. 1 and Nov. 14.
According to prisoners rights group Addameer, 7,000 Palestinians were held in Israeli prisons as of October. The organization estimates that 40 percent of Palestinian men have been detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
