Israeli forces assault Palestinian youth at Allenby Bridge

Dec. 23, 2016 1:51 P.M. (Updated: Dec. 23, 2016 2:01 P.M.)
NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Israeli soldiers assaulted a Palestinian youth at the Allenby Bridge crossing, on his way back into the occupied West Bank from Jordan on Thursday evening, local sources said.

Locals in the northern occupied West Bank city of Nablus told Ma’an that Israeli forces assaulted Nablus resident Hamzeh Abu Zuhra while he was passing through the border crossing, saying that the 24-year-old obtained bruises and other injuries.

A spokesperson for Israel's Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), which is responsible for implementing the Israeli government's policy in the occupied Palestinian territory, could not immediately be reached for comment. Ma'an also sent an email to an Israeli army spokesperson for comment on the matter.

Israeli forces routinely detain Palestinians at the crossing, as Palestinians must cross the border to access the Amman International Airport in order to travel abroad.
