Israeli troops detain Palestinian man near Salfit

Jan. 30, 2017 10:25 P.M. (Updated: Jan. 31, 2017 10:18 A.M.)
SALFIT (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained a Palestinian man from the town of al-Zawiya west of Salfit in the northern occupied West Bank on Monday afternoon.

Al-Zawiya resident Mahmoud Shqeir told Ma'an that six Israeli military vehicles stormed the town looking for a vehicle which had allegedly sped away after Israeli soldiers signaled to the driver to pull over at a nearby Israeli military checkpoint.

Soldiers, he said, searched in the streets until they found the vehicle, at which time they fired a round at its tire, forcing the driver to step out. Israeli forces then took the man into custody.

The driver, according to Shqeir, was a resident of the nearby Qalqiliya district.

An Israeli army spokesperson said they were looking into reports.
