Israeli forces detain Palestinian journalist at Ramallah-area checkpoint

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces early Monday evening detained a veteran Palestinian Jerusalemite journalist at a Ramallah-area military checkpoint in the central occupied West Bank, his son told Ma'an, though reports from Palestinian news agencies later Monday evening reported that journalist Muhammad Abd al-Rabbu was released from Israeli custody. 

Wissam Abd al-Rabbu said Israeli forces stationed at the Beit El checkpoint-- also referred to as DCO -- in eastern Ramallah stopped his father Muhammad Abd al-Rabbu, examined his identity card, and then took him into custody and seized his private car.

Wissam added that his family tried to get answers and an explanation as to why his father, a resident of the central occupied West Bank village of Beit Hanina, was arrested, to no avail. 

An Israeli border police spokesperson was not immediately available for comment on the report.
