BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- A Palestinian citizen of Israel was indicted on Monday over charges of transferring money to a fighter from the so-called Islamic State (IS) group, Israeli media reported.
News outlet Ynet
identified the suspect as Fadel Zabar, 25, from the town of Yafa al-Naseriya in northern Israel.
Ynet said that Zabar’s brother had left for Syria to fight with the IS in 2014, and died there in 2016.
Zabar was later contacted by another Palestinian citizen of Israel fighting with IS, who requested that Zabar transfer him money.
The Shin Bet, Israel’s internal intelligence agency, detained Zabar on March 2, The Jerusalem Post reported.
“The transfer of funds to foreign terrorist operatives can promote terrorist activity and therefore the Shin Bet will continue to use all measures at its disposal in order to thwart this threat in advance and to bring to justice those involved in this activity,” the newspaper quoted the Shin Bet as saying.
