BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- A Palestinian citizen of Israel died Thursday night after being struck by a car in the lower Galilee of northern Israel during a police chase.

According to Hebrew media, Israeli police in Shefa Amr city noticed a car being driven in a dangerous manner, causing the car to flip over.

Israeli police said that two youths in the car ran from the totaled car, while police began chasing them.

Nasim al-Shabi, 23, from the same city fled to a nearby junction and jumped over the security fence and was accidentally struck by a civilian’s vehicle as he ran from police. The car was reportedly driving on the route connecting Haifa to Nazareth.

Al-Shaabi sustained critical injuries in the accident and succumbed to his would hours later after arriving at a hospital.

Israeli police said it was still unknown who was driving the car, adding that al-Shaabi’s driving license had been revoked by Israeli police previously, which the police believed was the reason he fled from police after totalling the car.
