HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 16 Palestinians and set up multiple roadblocks during overnight military raids Sunday across the occupied West Bank.

A statement from the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said that in the southern occupied West Bank district of Hebron, Israeli forces detained two Palestinians from the town al-Samu, identified as Arafat Subhi Yousif al-Salamin, 29, and Mahmoud Bashir al-Hawamdah, 22. An Israeli army spokesperson only confirmed one detention in al-Samu.

Locals in the village of Idhna, also in the Hebron district, said Israeli forces ransacked the home of Ziyad Hassan Awwad, who is currently being held in Israeli prison, and confiscated a sum of money from his family.

An Israeli army spokesperson said one Palestinian was also detained during the raid in Idhna.

PPS said that in the central Ramallah district, Israeli forces detained Sami Subhi al-Hajj, 26, from Beit Rima, and Huthaifa Jabir Abu Alia, 19, from al-Mughayyir. The Israeli army confirmed the detentions and claimed the Palestinian detained in Beit Rima was a “Hamas operative.”

Israeli forces raided the village of Anabta in the northern Tulkarem district in the northern West Bank and detained Ali Wasfi Jabir, 24, Muhammad Mustafa Najjar, 24, and Ahmad Muhammad Shihab, 22, according to the PPS statement. An Israeli army spokesperson only confirmed two detentions there.

Muatasim Muslih, 20, was detained in the village of Qaryut in the northern Nablus district, according to PPS and the Israeli army.

Israeli forces raided the northern West Bank city of Qalqiliya and detained Hassan Murjan, 48, and his 17-year-old son Aws, in addition to Alaa Nihad Abu Asab, PPS said. The army only confirmed two detentions in Qalqiliya.

The PPS statement added that at least four Palestinian men from occupied East Jerusalem were detained on Sunday evening, identifying one of them as Wissam Hammudah, who was assaulted during his brief detention and then released.

In addition, a mother of two Palestinian prisoners, 61-year-old Aida Abu Tayih, was detained during a visit to see her sons Basil and Yousif at Israel's Gilboa prison, PPS noted.

Meanwhile, locals said Israeli forces blocked off the main entrances to the villages of Beit Einun and Sair east of Hebron city Sunday night, after a Molotov cocktail was reportedly thrown at the main road near the Beit Einun junction.

Locals told Ma'an that Israeli soldiers were deployed heavily in the area and carried out random searches on Palestinians, briefly detaining a man named Hamdi Muhammad al-Furoukh from Sair.

An Israeli army spokesperson said they were looking into reports.

Separately, at the entrance to the village of Qabatiya in the northernmost district of Jenin, Israeli forces set up a several military checkpoints, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.

The report quoted locals as saying that Israeli troops stopped Palestinian vehicles for inspection and questioned young men, creating traffic jams.

The army spokesperson said they were looking into the case.

Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

According to a joint report released by a number of Palestinian rights groups on Sunday, Israeli forces detained a total of 388 Palestinians, including 70 minors and 13 women, across the occupied Palestinian territory during the month of June.
