Abbas hosts delegation from left-wing Israeli Meretz party

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas hosted on Sunday a delegation from the left-wing Israeli Meretz party in his Ramallah office in the central occupied West Bank, according to to the Palestinian Authority (PA)-owned Wafa news agency.

Abbas and the Meretz delegation, led by chairwoman Zehava Gal-On, “discussed the latest political developments in the area,” Wafa reported, saying that Abbas “confirmed to his guests that peace-supporting forces and political parties should continue to play a significant role towards achieving peace between Israel and the Palestinians.”

"We came to you today because we believe there is currently a moderate Palestinian leadership, and we have similar opinions as peace partners. We believe it's necessary to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders," Gal-On said during the meeting, according to Wafa.
