Israeli forces temporarily close main entrance of Rawabi

Aug. 30, 2017 10:22 A.M. (Updated: Aug. 30, 2017 10:22 A.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces closed the main entrance to the city of Rawabi north of Ramallah on Tuesday evening and prevented Palestinians from entering or leaving the town, locals sources said.

Israeli soldiers were deployed at the main entrance for three hours and banned Palestinians from entering and leaving the city, before finally opening it.

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma'an they were looking into reports.

Israeli forces routinely close roads and entire villages in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, for alleged security purposes. These actions have been widely condemned by rights groups, who have said such measures amount to “collective punishment” and represent a clear violation of international law.
