Israeli undercover forces detain Palestinian in al-Jalazun refugee camp

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Israeli undercover forces detained a Palestinian during a raid on the al-Jalazun refugee camp in the central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah on Thursday.

Locals told Ma’an that undercover Israeli forces -- known as Mustaarabin in Arabic -- raided the camp at 10 a.m and detained Mahdi Jamal Abu Sharifa, who was referred to as a “youth.”

An Israeli army spokesperson told Ma’an she would look into reports on the detention.

Israeli raids in Palestinian towns, villages, and refugee camps are a daily occurrence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, with a biweekly average of 87 search and detention raids carried thus far in 2017, according to UN documentation.

Among the 6,279 Palestinians in Israeli prisons as of August, 465 are administrative detainees, according to prisoners' rights group Addameer. The group has estimated that some 40 percent of Palestinian men will be detained by Israel at some point in their lives.
