Israeli army stages 'controlled explosion' near Gaza Strip

Oct. 30, 2017 7:46 P.M. (Updated: Oct. 31, 2017 9:16 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Explosions were heard in different areas across the besieged Gaza Strip on Monday afternoon, according to locals.

Locals in Gaza told Ma’an that explosions were heard in Israeli territory surrounding Gaza, and that Israeli warplanes were also heard flying above the Khan Younis district in the southern Gaza Strip during the explosion.

Israeli media later reported that the Israeli army staged a “controlled detonation” in the area around the Gaza Strip, saying the activity was pre-planned.

The Israeli military regularly carries out training activities in the areas around Gaza, which has suffered a decade-long Israeli land, sea, and air blockade.
