Israeli airstrikes target Hamas military site in southern Gaza Strip

Jan. 2, 2018 1:10 P.M. (Updated: Jan. 3, 2018 2:58 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli air forces conducted airstrikes targeting a Hamas military site in the southern Gaza Strip on Tuesday around dawn.

Palestinian security sources said that Israeli planes targeted a site belonging to the naval division of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Hamas movement.

Three airstrikes were reportedly conducted in the area, northwestern of Khan Younis city in southern Gaza. No injuries were reported.

The Israeli army said in a statement that the strikes came in response to a rocket fired late Monday from Khan Younis towards Israel.

Israeli forces have conducted several airstrikes in the Gaza Strip since December, resulting in the death of four Palestinian fighters.

In November 2017, Israel conducted explosions on tunnels in the southern Gaza Strip, killing 12 Palestinian fighters with the Hamas and Islamic Jihad movements.
