HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Hundreds of Palestinian mourners marched on Saturday in the funeral of Hamzeh Youssef Zamaareh, 19, in the town of Halhul, north of Hebron in the southern occupied West Bank.

Zamaareh was killed by Israeli forces ten days ago after Israeli forces claimed he lightly injured a security guard in a stabbing attack in the Hebron-area settlement of Karmei Tzur.

His body was returned to his family late Friday.

Residents of Halhul participated in a general strike in mourning for Zamaareh upon calls by the national and Islamic factions in the town.

Hundreds of Palestinians have been shot, detained, or killed over the past two years in alleged attempted stabbing attacks against mostly uniformed Israeli soldiers or security officials.

Israeli forces have been widely condemned by rights groups for what have been deemed “extrajudicial killings,” in situations where alleged assailants could have been detained in a non-lethal manner.
