
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces continued to carry out massive search and detention raids in the occupied East Jerusalem Shufat refugee camp for the second day in a row, arresting 16 Palestinians.
Spokesperson of the Fatah movement in the refugee camp, Thaer Fasfous, said that hundreds of Israeli soldiers raided the camp after Wednesday after midnight as a helicopter flew overhead.
Israeli soldiers raided several houses and stores in the refugee camp, and detained 16 youths, summoning several others for interrogation.
Locals identified the detainees as: Ibrahim Alqam, Jamil Alqam, Mahmoud Alqam, Iyad Ziyadeh, Amin Ziyadeh, Khalil Ziyadeh, Muath al-Bayya, Mustafa al-Bayya, Ahmad al-Salaymeh, Samah Abu Zayid, Raad al-Tawil, Muhammad Muhamad Ali, Youssef Muhammad Ali, Ahmad Muhammad Ali, Dirar Muhammad Ali and Iyad al-Imwasi.
Israeli forces had carried out a similar raid on Wednesday before dawn,
detaining 20 locals.Some of the 20 were later released on conditions while the detentions of others were extended.
