Israeli forces shell eastern Gaza, injuring 1 Palestinian

GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli tanks shelled sites in eastern Gaza City on Wednesday morning, in what the Israeli army and media reported was in response to an explosive device that was detonated near an Israeli military bulldozer along the border.

Several Israeli military vehicles and bulldozers had briefly raided into an area near the al-Mintar (Karni) crossing, on the Gaza side of the border with Israel, during what the army descirbed as “routine activity.”

Locals told Ma’an that during the incursion, Israeli forces fired flares towards the southeastern al-Zaytoun neighborhood in Gaza City.

Shortly after, an explosive device was detonated near one of the Israeli bulldozers.

Local sources told Ma’an that Israeli tanks fired at least five shells targeting “resistance sites” east of the al-Shujaiyyeh neighborhood in Gaza City, and in agricultural lands in the al-Zaytoun neighborhood.

The spokesperson of the Gaza Ministry of Health said that a Palestinian was moderately injured by the shelling and was transferred to the al-Shifa Hospital.

"A number of targets belonging to the Hamas terror organization were attacked," the Israeli army said in a statement. "The IDF sees Hamas as responsible for any incident taking place in and from the strip and won't allow the terror organization to turn the fence area into a conflict zone."
