June 20, 2018 2:46 P.M. (Updated: June 21, 2018 12:17 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma’an) -- Israeli forces shot and wounded a Palestinian man on Wednesday after they opened fire on his car near the village of Umm Salmuna in the southern occupied West Bank district of Bethlehem.

Locals identified the man as Ahmad Nasser Thawabta, 27, from the Bethlehem-area town of Beit Fajjar.

Witnesses told Ma’an that Thawabta was shot in the back by Israeli forces after they opened fire on his car. He was immediately transferred to a hospital in Hebron for medical treatment.

The circumstances of the shooting remained unclear.

Following the shooting, Israeli forces closed off the main road located between the Bethlehem and Hebron districts. The entrances to the Bethlehem-area villages of Beit Fajjar and Tuqu were blocked, as well as the iron gate at the entrance of the town of Jannata.
