In Video - Israel prepares to demolish Khan al-Ahmar, Abbas condemns assaults against residents

JERICHO (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces surrounded al-Jahalin Bedouin village near the Jericho district and Khan al-Ahmar village, east of Jerusalem, after Israeli forces notified residents that they were being transferred from the area on Thursday.

Israeli army forces stormed the al-Jahalin Bedouin village in preparation to forcefully transfer Palestinian residents and demolish their homes, coinciding with the presence of about 60 activists and supporters in solidarity with the people.

A Ma’an reporter said that Israeli forces and police assaulted present activists and journalists, one was identified as journalist Muhammad al-Lahham.

Several activists were detained by Israeli forces.

Abdullah Abu Rahmeh, coordinator of the “Save the Red Khan” campaign from the Popular Committee against the Wall and Settlements, said that Israeli forces stormed Khan al-Ahmar Bedouin village, assaulted protesters, and detained three international activists.

Consuls of several European countries were present at Khan al-Ahmar, including the Belgium, Danish, Swiss, French, Swedish, Italian, Finnish and Irish consuls.

Israeli police forces prevented most journalists from reaching Khan al-Ahmar and issued tickets against those attempting to reach the area.

The Palestinian President strongly condemned Israeli forces' assaults against Palestinians at Khan al-Ahmar and the forcible transfer of residents.

President Mahmoud Abbas also applauded the cohesion of several Palestinian officials against Israeli plans to "steal lands."
