Israeli bulldozers demolish 2 Palestinian-owned rooms in Nablus

NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Israeli bulldozers demolished two Palestinian-owned rooms in the village of Khirbet al-Marajim, in the northern occupied West bank district of Nablus, on Sunday.

Abed al-Salam Dawabshe, the mayor of Duma village, which is located south of Nablus, told Ma'an that Israeli bulldozers demolished two rooms in the Khirbet al-Marajim village, which belonged to two Palestinian residents, Maarouf Muslim and Amin Salem Sharabi.

Dawabshe added that Israeli forces demolished the structures under the pretext that it was built in “Area C.”

Dawabshe confirmed that Israeli authorities claim that they sent out demolition notices weeks ago, stressing that the municipality of the village did not receive any notices regarding demolition.

Under the 1993 Oslo Accords, which delegated various degrees of autonomy to the Palestinian Authority (PA) around built up and urban areas, Israel retained full civil and military control over 60% of the West Bank, which is now known as “Area C.”

In Area C, Palestinian construction and land management is prohibited unless through consent or authorization by the Israeli Civil Administration.

Nearly all Palestinian applications for building permits in Area C are denied by the Israeli authorities, forcing communities to build illegally.
