Israel demolishes Bedouin kindergarten, women's center

July 25, 2018 11:45 A.M. (Updated: July 28, 2018 2:09 P.M.)
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli bulldozers demolished a kindergarten and a women's center in the Jabal al-Baba Bedouin community east of Jerusalem in the central occupied West Bank, on Wednesday.

Local sources, said that the demolition was carried out as part of Israel's plan to eliminate Bedouin communities, the largest of which is the Khan al-Ahmar Bedouin community, for the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements.

The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants condemned the demolition of the kindergarten and women's center describing it as an escalation of Israeli settlements and continuous ethnic cleansing of Palestinian residents in the area, with the aim of linking the illegal Israeli settlement of Maale Adumim and the surrounding settlements in occupied East Jerusalem within the "E1" settlement plan.

Since the beginning of July, the Khan al-Ahmar Bedouin community has been under threat of a planned demolition by Israel. The Israeli Civil Administration raided the Bedouin village, in preparation to demolish it, which would displace more than 35 Palestinian families, as part of an Israeli plan to expand the nearby illegal Israeli settlement of Kfar Adummim .

Israel regularly demolishes Palestinian homes and schools in the West Bank under the pretext of being built without the nearly impossible-to-obtain permits.

Meanwhile, Palestinian activists and officials said that the demolition plans are carried out in order to displace Palestinian residents of Bedouin areas with aims to expand illegal Israeli settlements.

Israel has been constantly trying to uproot Palestinian Bedouins from the east of Jerusalem area to allow settlement expansion in the area, which would later turn the entire eastern part of the West Bank into a settlement zone.
