Palestinian factions in Gaza express commitment to ceasefire agreement

July 27, 2018 12:57 P.M. (Updated: July 31, 2018 11:28 A.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- The Palestinian factions in the besieged Gaza Strip expressed on Thursday their commitment to the ceasefire agreement signed in Cairo, Egypt in 2014.

Factions confirmed, during a press conference held in Gaza City, the need to discuss the Israeli escalation and assess the field situation on the right of the Palestinian people to defend themselves in the on-going conflict with Israel.

The factions stressed that Israel continuously violates the 2014 agreement and must take full responsibility for its actions.

The 2014 ceasefire agreement, proposed by Egypt, was signed by both Israel and the Hamas movement, ending seven weeks of fighting that has left more than 2,200 Palestinians killed in the Gaza Strip.

The factions also pointed out that "The Great March of Return" protests and attempts to break the siege in the form of mass and peaceful protests will continue, indicating that next Friday marches will be under the slogan "our children, the martyrs."

Regarding the UNRWA financial crisis, the factions called on UNRWA's administration to stop all measures against Palestinian employees and refugees, explaining that the administration is implementing a joint United States and Israeli agenda against Gaza.

The factions demand that UNRWA commit to their purpose for which they were founded in Gaza.
