Israeli forces detain 14 Palestinians, including former prisoner

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained at least 14 Palestinians, including a former prisoner, during predawn raids on Monday across the occupied West Bank.

According to local sources, Israeli forces detained one Palestinian after raiding his father's home in the village of al-Khader in the southern West Bank district of Bethlehem; he was identified as Ibrahim Hassan Salah, 22.

In the Harmala village in the same district, another Palestinian was detained and identified as Mahmoud Salam Atallah.

In the central West Bank district of Jerusalem, Israeli forces detained five Palestinians. Two of whom were identified as Zacharia al-Bakri and Abdullah al-Najib from the Old City of Jerusalem.

The other three detainees were identified as Yazan Arrar and two brothers Uthman and Muhammad Alqam, from the Shufat refugee camp.

In the central West Bank district of Ramallah, Israeli forces detained one Palestinian; he was identified as Muhammad Hassan Rashed Elayyan from the al-Jalazun refugee camp.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces raided several Palestinian homes in the al-Jalazun refugee camp and searched through the residents' personal belongings.

Following the detention of Elayyan, violent clashes broke out between Palestinian youths and Israeli forces, during which Israeli forces fired live bullets, tear-gas bombs and sound bombs.

No injuries were reported.

Sources confirmed that in the northern West Bank district of Nablus, Israeli forces raided the home of a former Palestinian prisoner, Wafaa al-Damouni, who had spent over 15 years in Israeli prisons; he was re-detained after the raid.

In the northern West Bank district of Qalqiliya, Israeli forces detained three Palestinians and transferred them to an unknown location; they were identified as Adib Farah Zain al-Din, Abdullah Bassem Shanaa and Ibrahim Balasma.

In the northern West Bank district of Jenin, two Palestinians were detained and identified as Ahmad Hassan Hantouli and Nidal Muhammad Hantouli.

The Israeli army reported that its forces found and confiscated weapons during one of the raids.

Israeli raids into Palestinian towns and villages are near daily occurrence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.

According to prisoners rights group Addameer, there are 5,820 Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli prisons.
