Japan deplores Israel's approval of new settlement units

Aug. 29, 2018 2:13 P.M. (Updated: Aug. 29, 2018 5:22 P.M.)
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- The government of Japan deeply deplored, on Tuesday, Israel's approval of constructing more than 1,000 illegal housing units in the occupied West Bank.

Despite repeated interventions by the international community, including Japan, to halt settlement activities, the Israeli government recently approved the construction of more than 1,000 illegal Israeli housing units, planned to be built in the occupied West Bank.

The Japanese Minister of Foreign Affairs Press Secretary, Takeshi Osuga, said in a statement that Israel's settlement activities are in violation of the international law.

Osuga stressed that "Japan once again strongly urged the Israeli government to fully freeze its settlement activities including implementing the construction plans that are undermining the viability of a two-state solution with Palestine."
