Palestinian Presidency responds to Greenblatt's statement

Aug. 31, 2018 11:26 A.M. (Updated: Aug. 31, 2018 1:36 P.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Spokesperson of the Palestinian Presidency Nabil Abu Rdeineh said, on Thursday evening, that the Palestinian people alone are entitled to decide their own destiny and choose their legitimate leadership.

Abu Rdeineh's statement referred to a statement made earlier by the United States peace envoy, Jason Greenblatt, threatening the Palestinian leadership that it would be replaced by saying that "the Palestinian Authority should be part of the solution for the Palestinians of Gaza and Palestinians as a whole. If not, others will fill that void."

Abu Rdeineh added that there would not be alternatives to the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which is the only representative of Palestinians.

The Presidency spokesperson also said that those who agree to an alternative Palestinian leadership are "participating in the plot to liquidate the Palestinian cause turning it from the cause of people who want freedom and independence into a humanitarian cause."

He said that Greenblatt's statement is unacceptable, considering it an interference by the US administration in the internal affairs of Palestine, "which we will never allow," Abu Rdeineh commented.

Abu Rdeineh said that the American administration is the one responsible for aborting all international efforts to save the political process by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and moving its embassy to it.
