Blasts at Mezzeh airport 'not Israeli aggression'

Sept. 2, 2018 1:44 P.M. (Updated: Sept. 3, 2018 4:48 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Syrian state television quoted on Sunday a Syrian military source denying reports that the Mezzeh military airport was subjected to any Israeli airstrikes after loud blasts were heard.

According to the Syria media, the loud blasts reported at the Mezzeh military airport, located near Damascus, were allegedly caused as the result of an electrical fault, which caused an explosion in the weapons depot near the airbase.

However, a Syrian military source denied the claim and stated that the airport was not "the target of Israeli aggression."

In recent years, Israel carried out airstrikes against Syria and was even accused of targeting the Mezzeh military airport.

It is noteworthy that the airport is believed to be the base for the Syrian Air Force intelligence.
