RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Spokesperson of the Palestinian government, Youssef al-Mahmoud, said that the demolition of the Khan al-Ahmar village and the displacement of its residents is "ethnic cleansing."

Al-Mahmoud commented, in a statement, on the Israeli High Court's decision on approving the demolition of the Bedouin village of Khan al-Ahmar within the following week and displacing 180 residents by force from their lands, saying that this policy aims at forcing the original people of this land to leave their land and homes and therefore it is an actual implementation of ethnic cleansing."

Al-Mahmoud stressed that "the international community should shoulder its responsibility toward the Palestinian people and put a stop to attempts by the Israeli occupation authorities to undermine international efforts to bring peace, security and stability to this region."

The Palestinian government strongly condemned the approval as the statement added that "this illegal decision that uncovers the colonial DNA of Israel's institutions that work to provide legislative and judicial support to its executive authorities to confiscate Palestinian lands, eliminate all components of Palestinian life from houses, schools, and health centers in Khan al-Ahmar and prepare it to serve the so-called E1 colonial project, which aims to create an arc of settlements around East Jerusalem effectively alienating it from the West Bank and killing any hopes for a future contiguous Palestinian State."

The statement concluded that "the occupying state must be placed under the microscope of accountability and forced to stop its crimes against humanity."
