In video - US reporter accused of exaggerating hurricane winds

BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- A video went viral showing Mike Seidel, an American reporter for The Weather Channel, reporting live while covering North Carolina’s strong winds as Hurricane Florence hit.

The video went viral as it showed Seidel struggling to maintain his balance against the rain and strong winds.

Seidel was heard saying in the video “This is about as nasty as it’s been.”

Meanwhile, the camera zoomed out and showed two men in the background, who were wearing shorts and casually walking with no struggle whatsoever.

The video went viral and quickly became a joke all over social media, with comments accusing Seidel of exaggerating and falsifying the scene.

The Weather Channel released a statement to the Washington Post, which was in regard to the incident and said “It’s important to note that the two individuals in the background are walking on concrete, and Mike Seidel is trying to maintain his footing on wet grass,” and added that Seidel was “undoubtedly exhausted.”
