HEBRON (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained an employee of a directorate of the Palestinian Ministry of Endowment in the Old City of Hebron in the southern West Bank, on Saturday afternoon.

Locals identified the detainee as Islam Rateb Zahdeh.

Zahdeh was transferred to an unknown location.

Meanwhile, dozens of Israeli settlers raided the Old City of Hebron under armed security by Israeli soldiers.

Some 800 notoriously aggressive Israeli settlers now live under the protection of the Israeli military in the Old City, surrounded by more than 30,000 Palestinians.

Palestinian residents of the Old City of Hebron face a large Israeli military presence on a daily basis, with at least 32 permanent and partial checkpoints set up at the entrances of many streets.

According to prisoners rights group Addameer, there are 5,781 Palestinian prisoners currently being held in Israeli prisons.
