JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces opened fire at a group of Palestinians, injuring six, during violent clashes that broke out, on Monday evening, near the Qalandiya military checkpoint between occupied East Jerusalem and the central West Bank district of Ramallah.

A Ma'an reporter said that Israeli forces targeted a peaceful protest taking place near the Qalandiya checkpoint.

Israeli soldiers fired live ammunition, rubber-coated steel bullets and tear-gas bombs towards the protesters.

Five Palestinians suffered injuries due to live bullets and rubber-coated steel bullets, while dozens of others suffered from tear-gas inhalation.

The protests were organized in coordination with the general strike on Monday in protest of the approved Nationality Law, against the planned Israeli demolition of the Bedouin village of Khan al-Ahmar, and demanding Israel to hand over the body of killed Palestinian, Muhammad Youssef Elayyan.
