Abbas: 'No choice but to enforce recommendations of PCC'

Oct. 7, 2018 12:56 P.M. (Updated: Oct. 7, 2018 2:55 P.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said on Saturday that there will be no choice left for the Palestinian leadership but to enforce the recommendations of the upcoming PLO Central Council meeting on October 26th.

Abbas spoke at the commencement of the Fatah Central Committee (FCC) meeting in Ramallah City, in the central occupied West Bank, and said “During this month, we will see what the Palestinian leaders will decide. At the end of the month, we will have to implement all that is confirmed by the Central Council on the 26th of this month.”

He added “At the United Nations, we held important meetings with a number of international leaders and officials, as well as with the envoys of the Middle East peace process, who all supported the Palestinian initiative for peace, which we presented to the UN Security Council.”

Abbas also thanked the countries that named the State of Palestine as chairman of the Group of 77 and China.

“We must thank the countries that elected us as head of the Group of 77 and most of the countries that mentioned Palestine along with its just cause and expressed their support for international legitimacy.”

Palestine is supposed to lead the efforts of the Group of 77 and China both in presenting the group's point of view in the topics discussed or in reaching the best results while negotiating outputs related to various topics.

The topics include issues such as climate change, the final document of the Financing for Development Forum, as well as the Ministerial Declaration of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Group of 77 and China, including reforming the United Nations development system and the numerous annual forums such as the United Nations Forum on Forests as well as the specialized committees such as the United Nations Commission on Women, the United Nations Committee on Statisticians.

Abbas went on to thank all those who addressed the seriousness of the plans to cancel the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), which currently provides services to some 5 million Palestinian refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, the occupied Palestinian territories, and the besieged Gaza Strip.
