Israel warns Tulkarem residents of assisting Barkan attack suspect

Oct. 18, 2018 1:29 P.M. (Updated: Oct. 18, 2018 4:17 P.M.)
TULKAREM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces raided Tulkarem City, in the northern occupied West Bank, on Thursday morning, and posted flyers warning residents of providing assistance to a local, Ashraf Naawla, who had carried out a shooting attack 11 days ago and who has still not been found by Israeli forces.

Naawla had carried out a shooting attack in the Barkan industrial area, near the illegal Israeli settlement of Ariel, killing two Israelis and seriously injuring another.

The flyer reads that Israel would "punish" anyone assisting Naawla and that those who do would undergo legal consequences, including jail time, having their homes demolished and permits to enter Israel revoked.

The Israeli army had previously taken measurements of his the Naawla family home in the Shweika area of Tulkarem, and repeatedly detained and interrogated members of the family.

Israel always demolishes family homes of Palestinians, who were involved in attacking Israelis as part of its collective punishment policy against the Palestinian people.

Israel has come under harsh condemnation over the past several years for its response to attacks committed by Palestinians on Israelis, which rights groups have said amounted to "collective punishment" on family members and entire communities in a clear violation of international law.
