One Palestinian injured during Ramallah-area clashes

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- One Palestinian was injured during clashes that erupted between Palestinian and Israeli soldiers in the al-Mazraa al-Gharbiyeh village in the central occupied West Bank district of Ramallah, on Friday.

The Palestinian Red Crescent reported that its crews treated one Palestinian youth who was injured with a live bullet in the leg, pointing out that the youth was transferred to the al-Istishari Hospital in the city.

Locals said that Israeli forces fired live ammunition, rubber-coated steel bullets and tear-gas bombs towards Palestinians who were protesting to protect their agricultural lands from continuous attacks by Israeli settlers.

Palestinian towns and villages in the Nablus area are surrounded by Israeli settlements and outposts, many of which are protected by the Israeli military and have gained notoriety for being comprised of the most extremist settlers.

The Palestinian government has no jurisdiction over Israelis in the West Bank, and violent acts carried out by Israeli settlers often occur in the presence of Israeli military forces who rarely act to protect Palestinian residents.
