JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained five minors on their way home from school, in the Palestinian neighborhood of Silwan, in occupied East Jerusalem, on Wednesday.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center said that Israeli forces were deployed throughout the neighborhood as Palestinian students made their way home from school.

The center confirmed that Israeli forces stopped 15 students, between the ages of 14 and 16, and held them for over an hour.

The center added that after an hour of being held, Israeli forces detained five out of the 15 students and transferred them to an Israeli police station for interrogation.
The reason for their detention remained unknown.
The Israeli rights group B'Tselem reported that at the end of August 2018, 239 Palestinian minors were held in Israeli prisons as security detainees and prisoners, including three administrative detainees.

B'Tselem added that another nine Palestinian minors were held in Israel Prison Service (IPS) facilities for being in Israel illegally. The IPS considers these minors – both detainees and prisoners – criminal offenders.
