GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- A Palestinian was shot and injured by Israeli live ammunition along the borders of the besieged Gaza Strip, on Wednesday, according to a statement by the Israeli army.

The Israeli army, said in a statement, that a Palestinian youth approached the security border fence with Israel in the northern Gaza Strip, adjacent to the Zikim beach.

The youth allegedly threw a locally-made bomb at Israeli forces upon their arrival near the fence, and attempted to withdraw from the area, when Israeli forces opened fire at him.

Israeli forces surrounded and detained the youth; he was taken to an unknown location.

According to the Israeli army statement, the Palestinian youth was shot and injured in his hand.

Israeli forces regularly detain Palestinians attempting to cross into Israel from the besieged Gaza Strip, which has suffered under a decade-long military blockade by Israel.
