JENIN (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained a Palestinian woman, on Monday, for allegedly being in possession of a knife while passing through the Qalandiya checkpoint between occupied East Jerusalem and the central West Bank district of Ramallah.

According to local sources, Israeli forces detained Iftar Jamal Muhammad Kamil, 25, a resident from the Qabatiya village, in the northern West Bank district of Jenin.

Israeli police forces said that Iftar was detained for being in possession of a knife, which was hidden in a can of chips in her handbag.

Sources added that following Iftar’s detention, she was taken in for interrogation by the Israeli intelligence.

Eyewitnesses have also said in a number of cases that Israeli security forces planted knives on slain or imprisoned Palestinians to claim that they were acting in self-defense during a stabbing attack.
