Israel detains Palestinian attempting to smuggle electronics into prison

Nov. 30, 2018 1:17 P.M. (Updated: Nov. 30, 2018 1:17 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli Prison Service forces detained an 18-year-old Palestinian, who attempted to smuggle with eight mobile phones, five keyboards, 19 SIM cards and a memory card to Palestinian prisoners in the Israeli Ofer Prison.

According to Hebrew-language news outlets, two weeks ago, the Palestinian youth entered Israel without an Israeli-issued permit, near the Qalandiya checkpoint between occupied East Jerusalem and the central West Bank district of Ramallah, where Israeli Prison Service (IPS) detained him.

He was taken in for further interrogation and transferred to the Ofer prison, where a security check by the IPS revealed that he had attempted to also smuggle electronic equipment into the prison.

Sources added that the Palestinian youth attempted to smuggle the phones in return of a total of 20,000 shekels ($5,400) into Ofer prison.
