Abbas arrives in Rome for official visit

ROME (Ma'an) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived, on Sunday, in the Italian capital of Rome, on an official visit, during which he is scheduled to meet with the Italian President, Sergio Mattarella.

Abbas will meet with Mattarella, in addition to Italy's Prime Minister, Giuseppe Conte, and Pope Francis during his official visit, in order to discuss the latest political developments in the region, as well as bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to develop them.

Abbas is accompanied by the Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Riyad al-Malki, and Majdi al-Khalidi, the president’s diplomatic adviser, Nabil Shaath, advisor to Abbas for external affairs and international relations, Mahmoud al-Habash, Abbas' advisor on religious affairs, and Ramzi Khoury, president of the Palestinian National Fund.
