Abu Rudeineh: 'No peace plan will succeed without Palestinian approval'

Feb. 6, 2019 2:52 P.M. (Updated: Feb. 7, 2019 9:53 A.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- In response to reports that the United States intends to announce the so-called “Deal of the Century” peace plan in Poland’s capital of Warsaw the upcoming week, Nabil Abu Rudeineh, spokesperson for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, said that “no peace plan will succeed in the absence of a Palestinian role and approval, whether it was declared in Warsaw or anywhere else.”

He said in a statement, on Wednesday, that efforts to recruit various parties, whether European or Arab, to get aboard the American plan “will not change the fact that there will be no peace without a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

Abu Rudeineh stressed that the message from the latest Arab Summit in Saudi Arabia, the United Nations resolutions and the fact that the State of Palestine was elected as president of the Group of 77 and China “is the response to all futile attempts to bypass the Palestinian people, its leadership and the decisions of the international community as a whole.”

He said that “the failed policies that ignore the rights of the Palestinian people to freedom and independence will only lead to futile results, and the US administration should be well aware that the only way to peace is the path of justice and international legitimacy, through balances and away from false alternatives that regional and international forces are looking for.”

He added, “Therefore, the essential battle will always be in the substance and meaning of the Palestinian identity, and the inevitability of its victory and preservation.”
