Israeli forces detain 2 Palestinians for alleged possession of weapons

Feb. 12, 2019 4:01 P.M. (Updated: Feb. 13, 2019 2:58 P.M.)
NABLUS (Ma'an) -- Israeli forces detained two Palestinians, on Tuesday afternoon, near the illegal Israeli settlement of Har Bracha, south of the northern occupied West Bank district of Nablus.

Hebrew-language news outlets reported that the two Palestinians, whose identities remained unknown, were detained for allegedly having a knife and a gun in their possession.

The two Palestinians were searched and then taken in for further interrogation.

Sources added that the Israeli army found money in their possession, which they claimed is stolen.

Israeli forces have detained scores of Palestinians, many of them minors, for allegedly being in possession of knives following a spate of alleged and actual small-scale knife attacks by Palestinians that surged in the fall of 2015.

Hebron in particular grew as the epicenter of upheaval, with a number of Palestinians having been shot while being detained at military checkpoints in the area.

Eyewitnesses have also said in a number of cases that Israeli security forces planted knives on slain or imprisoned Palestinians to claim that they were acting in self-defense during a stabbing attack.

According to prisoners rights group Addameer, there are 5,450 Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli prisons.
