Israel demolishes Palestinian family home in Beit Jala

Feb. 13, 2019 4:24 P.M. (Updated: Feb. 15, 2019 3:17 P.M.)
BETHLEHEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli bulldozers demolished a Palestinian home for the second time, on Wednesday, near the Israeli separation wall in Beit Jala City, in the southern occupied West Bank district of Bethlehem.

Muhammad Mousa Zreineh, the owner of the demolished home, said that Israeli forces raided the home and physically assaulted his family members before proceeding to demolish it.

Zreineh pointed out that the demolition was carried out under the pretext that it was built without the nearly-impossible to obtain Israeli permit.

The demolished home measured 80-square-meters and was located in the Bir Ouna neighborhood in Beit Jala City, however, is classified as Area C and is under Israeli military control.

Zreineh added that this is the second time his entire family was displaced, noting his home was previously demolished by Israeli forces in 2016.

Israel uses the pretext of building without a permit to carry out demolitions of Palestinian-owned homes on a regular basis.

Nearly all Palestinian applications for building permits in Area C are denied by the Israeli authorities, forcing communities to build illegally.

According to Palestinians and rights groups, Israel’s overall goal, both in its policies in Area C and Israel’s settlement enterprise, is to depopulate the land of its Palestinian residents and replace them with Jewish Israeli communities in order to manipulate population demographics in all of historic Palestine.
