Israeli settlers seal door of mosque in Jerusalem

March 11, 2019 4:30 P.M. (Updated: March 12, 2019 3:16 P.M.)
JERUSALEM (Ma'an) -- Israeli settlers spread adhesive substance to the door of the Sheikh Makki Mosque in the Old City of occupied Jerusalem, on Monday.

Sources told Ma’an that those responsible for opening and closing the mosque were shocked as they arrived to the mosque to open it when they found an adhesive substance spread on the lock of the door and around it.

The door was then reopened and the substance was removed.

Witnesses reported that the police was immediately informed of the incident, arrived later and took pictures of the door.
Between 500,000 and 600,000 Israelis live in Jewish-only settlements across occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank in violation of international law, with recent announcements of settlement expansion provoking condemnation from the international community.
Israeli human rights group B'Tselem said in a previous report that "settler violence and vandalism takes place with full backing by the Israeli authorities. Sometimes soldiers take part in the assault; at other times, they stand idly by. The police makes no substantial effort to investigate the incidents, nor takes measures to prevent them or stop them in real time."
