Israel releases Palestinian after 16 years of imprisonment

RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- The Israeli authorities released, on Thursday, Palestinian prisoner Abed al-Hadi Jihad al-Hamshari, after 16 years in Israeli imprisonment.

Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS) confirmed Hamshari, a resident from the northern occupied West Bank district of Tulkarem, was released by Israeli authorities.

Meanwhile, PPS also confirmed that Israeli authorities released an ill Palestinian prisoner, Ashraf Abu al-Hada, 40, from the northern district of Nablus, after spending over five years in Israeli detention.

PPS said that al-Hada was held at the al-Ramla prison clinic, where another 15 ill Palestinian prisoners are also held.

PPS pointed out that al-Hada suffered an injury as he was detained by Israeli forces, which caused him dmage to the pelvic area, spine, in addition to other health issues.

According to prisoners rights group Addameer, there are 5,450 Palestinian prisoners being held in Israeli prisons.
