Israeli army: Warplanes target 200 sites as Gaza fires over 400 rockets

May 5, 2019 11:47 A.M. (Updated: May 7, 2019 4:33 P.M.)
GAZA CITY (Ma'an) -- Israeli warplanes targeted 200 sites, including Hamas movement military sites, underground tunnels, and weapon manufacturing facilities, across the besieged Gaza Strip since Saturday, according to the Israeli army on Sunday.

The Israeli army said in a statement that starting from 10:30 p.m. on Saturday up until 10 a.m. on Sunday, about 180 rockets were fired from Gaza towards southern Israel, and since tensions increased on Friday, a total of 430 rockets were fired from Gaza.

The statement confirmed that more than 100 Gazan rockets were intercepted by Israel’s Iron Dome aerial defense system.

In addition, the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza confirmed that a 14-month-old Palestinian toddler along with her pregnant mother were killed shortly after Israeli warplanes fired missiles towards their home in Gaza City.

The escalation came after Israeli forces shot and killed four Palestinians in the 57th “The Great March of Return” Friday protests, during which thousands of Palestinians take to the borders to peacefully protest the 12-year Israeli siege.
