Abbas: 'Qatar’s financial support to help alleviate hardships'

May 7, 2019 11:18 A.M. (Updated: May 7, 2019 4:08 P.M.)
RAMALLAH (Ma'an) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed his gratitude to the Emir of Qatar Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for allocating $480 million in financial support to the Palestinian Authority (PA), stressing the aid will contribute to alleviating the hardships facing the Palestinians, on Tuesday.

Abbas said the aid, which will be both loans and grants, will help the Palestinian people overcome some of their hardships, face challenges, and strengthen their steadfastness on their land until the establishment of their independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital on the 1967 borders.
He pointed to the brotherly relations between the Palestinian and Qatari people and their keenness to strengthen and enrich them for the benefit of the two peoples and the Arab nation.

Of the total sum of money, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry said that $300 million are aimed for health and education endeavors in the Palestinian Authority (PA) and $180 million will fund humanitarian aid, support for United Nations programs, and renovation works to improve electrical systems — most probably in the Gaza Strip.
